I am currently monitoring our Commonwealth’s response to COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel (new) coronavirus. Because of recent confirmed cases within Virginia and its anticipated spread, Governor Northam declared a state of emergency yesterday, you can watch his statement here. I am working with our state and local government authorities as they utilize the assets provided under this state of emergency. Your safety and well being is my concern and priority.
There were a lot of late nights and extra cups of coffee, but all worth it. I am so proud of what we were able to accomplish this session in the new majority. We were able to pass common-sense gun legislation, ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, expand access to the voting booth, protect reproductive rights, combat climate change, and so much more. A huge win for Virginians this week with the passage this week comes in the House’s passage of our Budget bill. This year’s budget bill was a colossal undertaking to create, but I am very proud of the end result! It makes great steps to help create a Commonwealth ready for 21st century challenges, while at the same time maintaining the fiscal responsibility Virginia is known for.
