RICHMOND - Today the Virginia House of Delegates passed the Equal Rights Amendment, becoming the 38th state to ratify and adding women to the Constitution. Delegate Hala Ayala was a Chief Co-Patron of this resolution and has been fighting for its ratification since 2008.
“As a single mother and Afro-Latina woman, I have personally witnessed and experienced the discrimination that impacts marginalized communities. Today’s ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment is a major step forward in achieving equality for all Americans.” stated Delegate Ayala.
Delegate Ayala was one of the legislative leaders for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment since joining the General Assembly in 2018. Her major legislative priorities center around providing equality and equity to all Virginians.
Delegate Hala Ayala was re-elected to her second term in the House of Delegates earlier this year. She is a cybersecurity expert and has been a resident of Prince William County for over 35 years.
