Delegate Ayala Evaluates Safety of U-Turns at Lake Ridge Elementary School

Woodbridge, VA – Tuesday, Delegate Hala Ayala visited Hedges Run Drive in front of Lake Ridge Elementary School (LRES), at the request of parents and school leadership, to assess the safety concerns of the current U-turn rules.

“I am grateful to the Lake Ridge community for voicing their concerns and welcoming me. As your Delegate, I am committed to working with the parents, school leadership, law enforcement, and the Virginia Department of Transportation to create a permanent solution,” said Delegate Hala Ayala. “As a parent of two, I know that our children are our most precious cargo, and the commute to and from school should be as safe as possible. I look forward to working together to finding an answer to this problem.”

U-turns during school drop off and pick up times at Hedges Run Drive at Lake Ridge Elementary School (LRES) have proven to be dangerous for parents, teachers, and students alike, at times causing accidents. Delegate Ayala's multi-faceted approach focuses on creating steps to improve the situation.

"The school system has been working to solve this problem, and we welcome the support from Delegate Ayala," said Occoquan School Board Representative Lillie Jessie. "Safety of our children is our number one concern."
