Delegate Hala Ayala’s Statement on Virginia Lifting Its Mask Mandate, Ending COVID-19 Mitigation Restrictions on May 28

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Delegate Hala Ayala released the following statement today on Governor Northam’s decision to lift the mask mandate and to end COVID-19 mitigation restrictions as of May 28 in accordance with CDC guidance:

“Today’s announcement by Governor Northam is a milestone that every Virginian should celebrate and welcome, and it is a true testament to our Commonwealth’s grit and resolve throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the leadership of Governor Northam and our General Assembly, Virginia has been a national leader throughout the pandemic in testing, safety protocol, vaccinations, and economic recovery. A return to normal seems to be within sights as more Virginians are vaccinated daily, our small businesses reopen, and children return back to school safely. Virginians have worked hard throughout the past year to keep our Commonwealth safe, and I encourage any Virginian who is not yet vaccinated to schedule an appointment at their nearest available provider. It is clear that vaccines are the best way to protect our Commonwealth from COVID-19.”
